28/07/07; Ferrari Store
Announces Opening in Los Angeles:
(Maxwell I. Janisch)
Ferrari North America president Maurizio Parlato
was the ribbon cutter at the opening of Ferrari’s newest store. Located on the 6th
floor of the Beverly Center (just east of Beverly Hills @ 8500 Beverly
Boulevard), this store is only the second store located in the Continental
United States, after the opening of the Las Vegas store (which was the first to
open worldwide).
The Beverly Center store is number 15 in a line of proposed 50-60 stores and small shops worldwide.
The Ferrari Store sells a wide variety of Ferrari authorized memorabilia, models, clothing and everything else that is Ferrari.
The automotive press was out in droves, along with celebrity notables who enjoyed the Italian hors d’oeuvres and beverages. A Ferrari Formula 1 car behind the store front glass was extremely inviting.
Ferrari has plans to open another store in the line, in Macao within the next 10 months. The much anticipated Ferrari Store at the Ferrari Theme Park in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, should also be in line for it’s grand opening when the park opens. I don't know about you, but I would make that special trip, just to see it. -Max Janisch, Publisher19/07/07;
HOT OFF THE
PRESS! 2008 Ferrari F430 Scuderia Edition!: (Lance S. Coren)
The Frankfurt Auto Show in September will showcase the release of of the 3rd
model of the renowned F430 series.
Ferrari S.p.A. reports that Michael Shumacher will be on hand to unveil in the spiritual successor to the F360 Challenge Stradale model.
The F430 Scuderia mimics the physical makeup of the previous Challenge Stradale in that it will be approximately 200 pounds lighter than the standard F430 Berlinetta model. The light alloy wheels will be of multi-spoke design, the front and rear bumper facias will be modified and exterior stripe accents will be affixed. The weight savings is attributed to the lack of interior carpeting, Carbon-Fiber Challenge style seats, plexiglass rear back window, radio system delete and some other trim weight savings, again similar to that of the Challenge edition. The Scuderia will be positioned for Ferrari Owners Club & Ferrari Club of America open track forays, opposed to street use only.
The 4.3L V8 engine will produce 510 horsepower @ 8500 rpm’s, which is 27 more than the standard powerplant. The new “F1 Superfast 2” transmission reduces gear-change times to a reported 60 milliseconds. An additional new traction-control system combines the “E-Diff” electronic differential and the “F1-Trac” traction and stability control in a single integrated effective system. Carbon- Ceramic CCM 2 brakes are another addition. Color availability is reported to be limited to red, yellow and black.
Ferrari represents that the 0-60 mph time will be 3.5 seconds. The top speed rating will hover right at 200 mph. The weight to performance ratio is rated at 2.45 kg/bhp.
Prices have not been announced as yet, but internal pricing reports acknowledge a +$25,000US premium will be the rule of thumb.
Production numbers are alleged to be pegged at about 500 units (2 per dealer), but the demand may contribute to an increased production run when all is said and done. In any event, the Scuderia is destined to become yet another Ferrari to have and an instant collectible to boot.
Ferrari calls this production, their “further demonstration of the direct technology transfer from motorsports to road cars in Maranello”.
Ferrari is
currently on the map in 52 worldwide markets and exports 89% of the cars built
at it’s sole production facility in Maranello. There are currently 250 Ferrari
retail dealerships worldwide. Since mid-2004, Ferrari has opened several new
markets including Russia, Slovenia, Hungary and China.

Hot off the Press! The Baby Ferrari, M139 (Lance Coren)
Word has finally come out, that
Ferrari is testing at least 1, if not 2 prototypes of the code M139 “Baby
Ferrari” model. The units have been spied during testing around Maranello and
Modena. The prototype test units are guised as a slightly smaller version of the
F430, at this stage of the assessment process.
The testing is being carried out with a modified 4.2L Maserati V8 powerplant, that is said to most probably produce just shy of 475 horsepower and 450 lbs. of torque. Additionally, a modified Cambicorsa 6-speed transaxle will be doing duty in putting all this power to the pavement along with an upgraded differential. Curb weight of the car is said to be less than 3200 lbs with the use of a new combination aluminum composite constructed spaceframe chassis. This would of course, be with the assistance of Alcoa’s new manufacturing facility in Modena.
Since Maserati, S.p.A. has been sold back to Fiat, and their last 4.0 liter project car was stillborn, it makes sense that modifications to this previously produced dead project, would be resurrected to recoup the substantial investment already expended in the original development. It also makes sense, that the alluded production facility would be none other than the rebuilt Maserati plant in Modena. No need in letting this newer plant sit idle any longer.
Some unnamed marketing sources report that a proposed introduction base MSRP of just above $150,000 would be logical for the “baby”.
The unit would actually be positioned just below the F430 and production could be started by late 2008. With a planned production run of 3000 cars per year, it would compete with the Porsche 911 Turbo, the Audi R8 and the Aston Martin V8.
Let’s hope that this project
takes cues from other successful Ferrari ventures.
